Old Farm Apartments has been improving their greening efforts for the past couple of years by starting a recycling program and even trying to conserve energy usage. As a WasteBuster Apartment, Old Farm educates their residents about the types of resources that can be recycled, such as paper, cardboard, plastic and aluminum and glass. Not only do they offer their residents recycling “rosies” at the dumpster, they offer opportunities for their residents to recycle in the mail room, pool deck, and work out room. Old Farms has also taken advantage of a program offered through Kentucky Utilities called the Demand Conservation Switch Program, which is a program that works to reduce the amount of energy used during peak energy demand days. Residents also receive information about ways they can make their individual apartments more energy efficient.
Old Farm Apartments just signed up as a Live Green Lexington Water partner by committing to maintain their pet waste signage and baggy dispense on the property and working with the residents to educate them about the importance of proper disposal of fats, oils and grease. Water conservation has also been an important priority for the complex because all 330 units have low flow shower heads and toilets, and aerators for the faucets installed to help residents with their water use. This past month Old Farm stenciled all of their storm drains in order to bring awareness to the importance of dumping no waste in the storm drains because it drains into our streams. This is especially important for Old Farms because the West Hickman Creek flows directly behind their complex. To find out more information about Old Farm apartments visit http://www.oldfarmapts.com/
