[Lexington, Ky.] – As part of Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government’s (LFUCG) annual Environmental Commission awards ceremony, five Bluegrass PRIDE (Personal Responsibility In a Desirable Environment) initiatives and partnerships were honored. These included:
The Bluegrass Rain Garden Alliance
Sayre School’s Sustainable School Program
Christ the King School for recycling and composting food scraps as part of the WasteBuster School Program
Fayette County Public Schools for recycling, waste audits and classroom activities as part of the WasteBuster School Program
Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital for its WasteBuster Program initiative
“Bluegrass PRIDE is thrilled to help make important projects, such as WasteBusters and rain gardens, available not only throughout Lexington, but Central Kentucky as a whole,” said PRIDE Executive Director Amy Sohner. “It’s an honor to have these programs recognized by the LFUCG Environmental Commission.”
Bluegrass PRIDE, along with other stakeholders and organizations, is a member of the Bluegrass Rain Garden Alliance, an initiative towards building a better Bluegrass by supporting the need for rain gardens as stormwater management tools. The group has set a goal of cultivating 2,010 rain gardens by 2010.
The WasteBuster program, through which PRIDE works with the LFUCG Division of Waste Management, gives businesses, schools and apartment complexes personalized attention and resources they need to establish comprehensive and sustainable recycling programs.
Bluegrass PRIDE is a 501(c)3 organization devoted to providing environmental resources and information to schools, community groups, local governments and citizens throughout 18 counties in Central Kentucky. For more information, visit www.kentuckypride.com.
