[Lexington, Ky.] – Bluegrass PRIDE (Personal Responsibility in a Desirable Environment) received the 2010 Fifth Third Bank Innovative Nonprofit Award which was awarded during the eighth annual Kentucky Nonprofit Leadership Forum luncheon on Oct. 14 at the Lexington Convention Center.PRIDE’s Live Green Lexington Partner program, run in partnership with Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) was selected for the award because of the successful partnership with the public and private sectors, as well as its innovative approach to reducing waste and improving water quality.
The Innovative Nonprofit Award recognizes a nonprofit organization in Kentucky implementing inventive, nontraditional programs or methods that effectively and efficiently meet community needs. The criteria considered in the selection of the award ranged from the overall excellence of the organization, the innovative ways used to adapt and respond to challenges, the solutions developed that can be used as a model idea for other nonprofits and the long term viability of the programs. The Nonprofit Leadership Initiative is an outreach program of the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, dedicated to improve Kentucky’s nonprofit sector by providing consulting services, educational opportunities, and resources for organizations and their leaders.
“It was an honor for us to have our programs recognized and awarded by the Nonprofit Leadership Initiative,” said PRIDE Executive Director Amy Sohner. “All of our efforts are geared toward providing education and information on simple steps to environmental improvement in Central Kentucky.”
